Download from Gmail

I have about 20GB of papers in three Gmail accounts. Each e-mail has in the message text the journal data, abstract, keywords, references, and sometimes a note. The PDF, and the citation data file (RIS) are attachments.

What would be the best way to move this data into Zotero?

  • I don't think there is going to be an easy way to do this.

The best way to ensure that you get the most accurate data would be to download each RIS file and PDF, import the RIS file and then drag the PDF onto the RIS file.

Alternatively you could just grab the PDF's and try to use Zotero's retrieve metadata for PDFs function. (You would need Zotero 1.5)

Undoubtedly you could also gin up something more complicated. For example, if your on a Mac you could pull all those emails into Mail.app and then set up some sort of Rube-Goldberg-Machine-Like workflow with Automator to pull out each of the attached RIS files and stuff them into a super huge RIS file.
