Sharing references

  • Hello, I've set up a Zotero collection for a conference publication that I'm doing. Are there instructions anywhere that I can send to participants, so that they understand how to add their references please? Not all with have Zotero accounts currently.
I'd be grateful for any advice,
    many thanks,
    helen
  • I'm unclear for what level of instructions you're looking. On your end, you'll want to turn this into a Zotero group and probably make the people who should add references members. That does require for them to have or register for (free) Zotero accounts. As for how to add -- I suppose that'd be basic intro to Zotero instructions? In my experience, while Zotero is easy to use, you'll not find people who aren't already using it taking kindly to being forced to use it for a one-off purpose like this.

@Dan%20Stillman could zou split bigbird's post into a new thread please.
  • Thanks Adam, yes you're right, I'm a bit concerned about making it as easy as possible for non-Zotero users. Is there any way of explorting from their existing reference libraries, be that Mendeley or Endnote, so that I can import the refs for them? Regarding instruction - where could i find the best basic intro to Zotero do you think? Something with images or a video would be idea. Thanks for your time
  • Yes -- you want export in RIS format from other reference managers, which all relevant ones export and you can import easily into Zotero.
I think Zotero's Quick Start guide is very good: https://www.zotero.org/support/quick_start_guide

If you want something more extensive and with videos, Harvard Libraries have some great documentation: http://guides.library.harvard.edu/zotero
  • Perfect, this is so helpful - thank you Adam!! :-)
