Citation Order

Hi,

Am revising my Transfer Report using Apache OpenOffice and have reordered my Conclusions section.

Z-standalone now insists on ordering the references in [1] [3] [2] order.

I've taken the references out, broken the links, re-inserted in correct sequence - no change, still mis-ordered. However the Bib is fine; the right docs are shown - but reading the Conclusions it seems just not what was wanted.

HOW do I reset Z so it believes in in-document order? Do I need to purge the in-document store of Zotero cites - if so, how?

:)
Thanks!
  • What style are you using and are the references inserted as separate citation fields or as one field with all three citations in it?
  • Hi,

Using IEEE style; 3 separate fields.

Also chasing a similar issue re mis-numbering Figures in the body of the doc; this might be a AOO 4.1.3 issue (these problems not seen in the first thesis, written in 4.1.2...) will let you know if I track this down.

  • I'm beginning to worry that if I write a big section (some take several weeks) and cite stuff, the cite sequence order is fixed in stone.

Please tell me the cite sequence _does_ follow re-ordering of sections?

Else, the only way to re-order is if I scrap the document. Because I can't remove the old cites.

That's a killer if so.... please tell me that's not so??

    :(
  • Zotero should re-order the citations according to the IEEE specifications. That the numbers aren't changing for your figure captions, too, suggests to me that is might be a AOO issue. Try clicking the Zotero refresh button (or inserting a new citation) and try to refresh all of the fields in the whole AOO document.
  • :)

No, the figure captions are changing. But are wrong; it looks now like a different issue.

I've pulled all the levers to hand - refreshed, inserted new captions, refreshed all fields. I've spent an hour fiddling with this before coming to the forums....

    Try again:

    1. Remove present citations (only 3 at moment). They were counted as 1-3-2.

    2. Refresh all document fields. Check Bibliography: It has a message saying Bibliography and is otherwise empty.

    3. Working document from front to back, insert 1st ref. It is number one and shows as [1]. Update Bib. OK.

    4. Insert 2nd ref. It says [2]. Update Bib; all OK.

    5. Inset (in last place) 3rd ref. Its says [2] and the second has changed to [3].

    6. Order sequence 1st -> last is 1-3-2.

    Next???

  • Next idea - Revert AOO 4.1.3 (latest, installed 2 weeks ago or so) to 4.1.2 (used to write the thesis). Repeat erase citations and re-insert.

    Result: No change.

Next idea: dive into the .odt file (by making it a .zip and unzipping it) and look in the file contents, which is "content.xml" (I'm no expert in this).

Delete all references to citations EXCEPT 1st. Reduce Bib entry to just number 1.

Repackage and open in AOO. Looks like.... there is only one citation. Good.

    Re-enter 2nd, 3rd citation in 2nd, 3rd places.

    Order is now.... drum roll...

    :) .... ??

    1-3-2.

    No change.

  • Hooray! I've bodged it!!

On a blank line, right at the start of the doc, I've added the 3 citations in the correct order then made the font typeface white hence invisible.

Now the order is 1-2-3 !
