Zotero online or on hard drive?

I am using Zotero online. Should I also have a synced version on my hard drive? How would I set that up?

Yes. https://www.zotero.org/support/sync (though not that if by "online" you just mean the Firefox add-on, you're already using Zotero on your hard drive).
