The reading of Pdf files in Zotero is annoyingly slow

edited October 17, 2016
I open them with the Preview app, and I usually take notes on them. I have run EtreCheck, and as far as I understand it says there is a path problem with the library. I have reviewed other Pdf docs which are not in Zotero and they work ok, so I think the problem with the library path is related with Zotero. What can I do to fix it?

I have found a temporary solution by duplicating the pdf file and setting it on my computer, out of the library. Then Pdf files work ok, but I have duplicated the usage of storage space for each article
  • I'm not quite sure I understand what the problem is in the first place, but are you seeing this?
    https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/61014/macos-sierra-papers-protected#latest
  • I have seen and it is not the same my problem. I have Yosemite and I can edit the pdf files. The problem is that the edition is too slow, once I open a text box, a can write one letter, and then I have to wait around 10 seconds to write the second letter. But, if I put the pdf file out of the Zotero's library, the editing works perfectly.
  • does it make a different if you open the PDFs straight from Zotero or if you use right-click --> "Show File" and open it from finder?
This is a very odd error. I don't think we've ever seen this, nor does it make a lot of sense (since Zotero doesn't actually have anything to do with the PDF files once you open them).

The exact message from EtreCheck might help, too.
  • The entire EtreCheck report is too large, I have only copied the paragraphs in red letters:

    Adware: ⓘ
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.download.plist
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.ltvbit.plist
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.update.plist
    3 adware files found. [Remove]

    Startup Items: ⓘ
    HW_CreateNetwork: Path: /Library/StartupItems/HW_CreateNetwork
    HWPortDetect_driver: Path: /Library/StartupItems/HWPortDetect_driver
Startup items no longer function in OS X Yosemite or later
  • How about my first question? (And none of this looks like it has anything at all to do with Zotero)
  • It is the same, right click and "show in the finder", and the highlighting or editing remain slow
  • So the problem is that editing a PDF stored in that location of your harddisk is slow. You can move your Zotero data directory somewhere else (similarly to what is described in the Sierra thread) and that'll likely help, but beyond the location of the Zotero data folder, this isn't anything Zotero does.
