Zotero 5.0: Relations made in 4.0 disappeared.

edited October 14, 2016
I installed the Zotero 5.0 version and ungraded from 4.0 to 5.0.
After that I checked my data...but there is a big problem....

The relation from English title book(A) to Korean title book(B) is OK.
BUT the reverse relation is completely broken. That is, the relation of Korean title book(B) to English title book(A) disappeared. What happened?
Usually I related an English book to a translated book in 4.0.

I think this is not the problem concerning language.
The relation of the starting item is alive, but that of the target item is empty, I guess.

When I re-relate the two books in 5.0, it works OK.
But the relations that I made in 4.0 are not complete.

I restore back-up and re-install 4.0.

Check and fix the problem, please.

I captured screens for your understanding.

After the capturing, I compared relations using 4.0 Standalone and 5.0 Firefox with the same data.
You can see empty relations in 5.0.

As I told above, I'm not sure this problem is concerned to language.
It might be the direction-of-relation-concerned problem and some errors happened during upgrade of DB from 4.0 to 5.0, I guess.

==========================
For test, I newly made small DB with 4 entries using Zotero 4.0, made relations between them, and opened it with Zotero 5.0.

As a result, I came to believe that missing relations are related to direction of making relations. If you want, I can give you my test DB(.sqlite).
  • Thanks — this should be fixed in r59. Let us know if not.

    It still doesn't work properly.
    I tested r60 (FireFox).
I copied 4.0 DB into another folder, and opened it Z5.0(r60).
But the same thing happened. That is, relations disappeared.

I made small wmv file comparing Z4.0(I use 4.0.28 for Korean input) and Z5.0(r60) for your clear understanding.

  • Can you upload your test 4.0 DB to the https://www.zotero.org/utils/dbfix/ and post the Upload ID here? Don't worry about the repaired DB link it provides after.
  • Using my original DB, I made small 4.0 DB for test with relations between items, and uploaded it. (My original 4.0DB is too big for upload.)

    Here is ID: 5802c5850a3c3.

    Thanks.
  • Hmm, if I upgrade that test DB either directly to r60 or to an earlier 5.0 beta and then to r60, I get bidirectional relations for those items.

Are you using syncing? If so, try disabling auto-sync and see if this still happens.

Otherwise, are you able to reproduce with that test DB? If so, can you provide a Debug ID for the upload startup using the "Enable after restart" option?

    I don't use sync.

    I tested 2 DBs.

    1. I tested the test DB(small DB I uploaded) --> It works fine, as you said.

    2. I tested the copied version of my original DB (size: about 150 MB). --> When I opened it with Z5.0, the bug appeared.

So I made 2 Debug ID:

D1000313867 : Taken when the first time I opened 4.0 DB in Z5.0.

D665106876 : Taken when relations links are broken in Z5.0.

These Debug IDs might be helpful, I hope.

    Thanks.
  • OK, I might have found the problem. Can you try in r64?

    I tested Firefox (r65) and Standalone(r65).
    Relations work fine.

    Thanks a lot.
