running Zotero entirely on an external hard drive?

Hi folks, my research projects are now taking up too much room on my hard drive that I need to start putting all my files on an external drive. I'm wondering if anyone knows whether I can install Zotero onto an external hard drive and move my entire Zotero library over? Or, alternatively, whether I can have several versions of Zotero on different external hard drives, each with different files for the different research projects?
