Read and write permissions to Zotero data directory

This discussion was created from comments split from: Zotero standalone unable to update, need permission.
  • Ηι ! Ι have a problem.. i want to open zotero but a message appears: make sure you have read and write permissions to all files in the zotero data directors.
Earlier i tried and changed the language from english to greek..
  • That message pretty much means what it says — you'll need to fix the file permissions in your Zotero data directory so that they're writable by your OS user account. How you do that depends on your OS, and isn't really something that we can help with. This sort of thing generally happens after migrating files to a new computer.
  • Check the security settings tab on File Properties of Zotero data folder (C:\Users\yourname\Zotero). If it looks OK (that means SYSTEM, current user, and Administrators can have full access to it), then make sure the zotero.sqlite file is NOT readonly. I was able to fix this problem by removing readonly property of this file. Hope this helps somebody.
