Zotero WebDAV syncing stopped working across computers

edited September 24, 2016
I have setup a WebDAV file syncing connection with a box.com account so that I can sync PDF files between a laptop and desktop, both running Zotero standalone. This worked when I initially set it up some weeks ago, but today suddenly it stopped working. Chrome on my desktop had asked for me to login to Zotero again and generate a key (why is this even needed?) so this may be a symptom, however I used my standard Zotero account so I don't understand why this wouldn't work now.

I should add that, crucially, file syncing *does* work in *one* direction - from the laptop to the desktop, i.e., if I add a file on my laptop's Zotero, it will sync correctly to the desktop, but not vice versa. Both Zotero applications' file syncing are configured identically.

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated!
  • Chrome on my desktop had asked for me to login to Zotero again and generate a key (why is this even needed?)
That suggests Chrome can't communicate with Zotero Standalone (the key is for the Chrome connector to send items straight to the server), so it's possible it's related.

Beyond that, run through these: https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/files_not_syncing to find out where the problem exactly is (i.e. are you getting a sync error and if not, are the files not syncing _to_ the webDAV or are they not syncing _from_ the webDAV)
  • Thank you very much, I followed the steps in that support doc and got to the very end (steps 5 and 6), and somehow the PDFs started showing up on my desktop ("Computer B" in the doc example). I don't know how this was any different from what I was doing before, but perhaps sitting on the issue for a month allowed it to resolve itself. ;)
