I delete items by right-clicking and choosing delete. Sometimes I accidentally right click on the item below or above the one I intended to delete. So far, I've also noticed when I've done this, so there have been no unfortunate accidents of this type.
Nonetheless, until a "Recycle Bin"-like feature is implemented, I suggest addig more information to the text of the deletion confirmation dialog:
Are you sure you sure you want to delete "A Catalog of Mass Models for Gravitational Lensing.pdf"?
