Adding citations to comments in Word 2008

When I try to add a citation to a comment in Word 2008 with the latest plugin version (2.0a2), I get an error message "Zotero fields cannot be inserted here". Instead of this, I would like the software to generate a new bibliography entry to the comment. I can do this by dragging an entry from Zotero to Word, but it would be more userfriendly if I could just insert a citation like I do in the body text.

This feature request applies probably all other word processors as well.

This is a Microsoft Word limitation; the Zotero plugin cannot do anything about it. Fields and bookmarks (of any type) cannot be inserted in MS Word comments. They are basically for flat text only.
  • mronkko seems to want not a field or bookmark in the comment, but just a plain-text entry. This is certainly possible, though it might or might not be confusing if the insert citation button had this sort of modal behavior. For comments, I don't think it would be confusing. For in-document sections where it is currently not possible to insert a citation, it might get confusing.
  • This is exactly how I would expect it to behave. Just make a flat text bibliography entry.

If I remember correctly, this is what endnote does.
