The US Library of Congress website has been experiencing a Denial of Service attack that began on 17 July. The site has been down intermittently and much slower than normally. The LOC notice to libraries that I received stated that after the site brought additional resources online to help compensate for the server load the attack strength greatly increased. As this has affected much more than public access to the catalog (internal email, associated servers, and other key government operations), extraordinary efforts are being made to get this under control.
