[Juris-M] Returning to Zotero - Database Error
Hi there,
I am wanting to return to using Zotero stand alone. I have been using JurisM stand alone v 4.0.29.10m87, which is still installed on my Mac.
I saw in this post (https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/newer_db_version) that JurisM isn't meant to cause a database error. However, after installing Zotero v 4.0.29.5 and attempting to open it I received the following error 'This version of Zotero is older than the version last used with your database. Current version: 4.0.29.5. Please upgrade to the latest version from zotero.org'
I have deactivated all the Zotero and JurisM related extensions in Firefox and then re-installed the Firefox browser extension. However I still receive the same error.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards
Aaron

I have also tried find the file "zotero.sqlite"and renaming it and copying the latest Zotero backup file and renaming it to "zotero.sqlite". I did this but I still received the same error.
I have since discovered I have 2 copies of zotero.sqlite, one last modified today in the default location and the other in a custom location. The storage folder of the installation in the default location folders were last modified yesterday, whereas in the storage folder in the custom location was last modified in June 2015.
I'm now really worried about losing data when I sync.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Kind Regards
Aaron
The only reasonably easy way to get a juris-m database into regular Zotero is to sync the two via the Zotero server.
Can't help with the two separate sqlites, really, but it sounds like the custom location just isn't used. I don't see how/why you'd be losing anything (remember "sync" is smart: it will never just overwrite old data with new one), but you should obviously have backed up database copies while migrating your database between different software.
I tried syncing using the Firefox plugin (as the standalone version still returned the same error I initially reported). The Zotero tab in Firefox stated 'Your database cannot be accessed because Zotero Stand alone is currently open. Please view your items in Zotero standalone.' But Zotero standalone is not open (I checked force quit and it Zotero wasn't listed there). Anyway, the Firefox extension still allowed me to press the sync button so I gave it a whirl.
After the status bar progressed for a minute or so I could see an alert near the sync button, which reads 'Transaction in progress in Zotero.Sync.Server._checkSyncUser'. When I clicked the report error button the following error report appeared:

- If you installed Juris-M over Zotero, the original Zotero database on your PC will remain untouched. Removing Juris-M, reinstalling Zotero and syncing should have the effect of bringing the database up to date with the online image of your library and groups.
- If you installed Juris-M over MLZ, the untouched zotero.sqlite file will be an MLZ library, which will not run or sync successfully under Zotero
It is odd that you are getting a database compatibility error with Standalone, but not with the Firefox plugin. There should be no difference in behavior. Possibly Standalone and the plugin are pointing at different copies of the database? In any case, if you were running MLZ before installing Juris-M, the compatibility error would be expected. If that is the case, the simplest way to recover the library in Zotero format is to rename zotero.sqlite, run Zotero to create an empty library, and sync it to your account.
If you installed Juris-M over official Zotero, it is exactly as adamsmith says, and this would be an unrelated sync issue. (I'd still be curious why Standalone and the plugin differ on the compatibility warning, though.)
