Syncing Group Library

I have a zotero scenario that I have not done before that I need some advice!
A professor has given their secretary a draft of a paper for publication that has zotero citations and bibliography already entered (but apparently needing corrections and editing). The secretary is completely new to zotero. She is installed via Firefox and the professor has added her to a group library. The secretary's zotero library is empty. My questions are:

1. Is the first step for the secretary to sync with the group library? in other words, she cannot do cite and write or edit citations/bibliography unless the group library has been synced and downloaded into her zotero correct?
2. The secretary's zotero library is empty. Syncing with the group library will just download the citations in the library to her local zotero correct? (My concern is that syncing with this group library does not somehow delete anything that is in the group library. If the secreatary adds citations to her local zotero and then syncs with the group library, it only ADDS her citations to the group library and does not replace the entire group library with just her citations?)
3. sort of the same question asked yet another way: in zotero you do not cite and write and edit bibliographies by interacting with a group library correcet? only by syncing with it and having those citations in your local zotero?

Sorry for the muddled questions that i'm sure are very elementary! thank you for your help!
  • 1. correct
    2. correct
    3. That's a bit of a misleading question: You need to sync to use cite&write (so yes in that sense), but you're still interacting with the group (via the synced local copy of it).

That said, editing the data in the group will only work to update the citations/bibliography in the document if they were originally inserted from the (locally synced copy) of the group.
