Language Tagging of Foreign Words in Titles

It’s not uncommon for titles in my Zotero library to have foreign language words in them. Here are a couple of examples:

“The Sense and Syntax of John 3:14–17 with Special Reference to the Use of οὕτως . . . ὥστε in John 3:16”

“ΙΟΥΝΙΑΝ (Romans 16:7) and the Hebrew Name Yĕḥunnī”

When Zotero adds a citation to a footnote in MS Word, the Greek text, e.g., is not properly recognized as Greek, but rather as English. This is problematic for a couple of reasons, but the most significant is that it makes it very difficult to use multiple fonts: one for English, another for Greek, another for Hebrew, etc. Sure, a couple of find and replaces could do the trick, but only as a temporary fix. As soon as you refresh Zotero, all of those changes are undone.

Is there any way around this? Is there any possibility of being able to embed language tagging in the metadata in Zotero (e.g., perhaps using the methods discussed in this thread)?

I’d love to hear others’ thoughts on this, how you deal with it, and if a better solution is coming.
  • Tagging the foreign language portion of titles works for integration with Pandoc; it's possible something similar might work for integration with Word:
