Delete items not in a collection

I deleted several unused collections to free up space, but did not delete the contents. I had to free up space by deleting old items, but want to be more specific with more recent items. Is there a way to selectively purge items not in a collection, or at least to easily see if items are in a collection?

That's what the "Unfiled" collection at the bottom does (i.e. show items not in any collection).
