can't open library off flash drive

I keep my zotero library on a flash drive. At work, I use a PC and run firefox portable off the flash drive; at home, I use regular firefox on my mac and just point firefox to the library on the flash drive.

Suddenly, when I redirect zotero on my mac to the library on the flash drive and restart firefox, zotero will not start. I get the message "there was an error starting zotero."

I copied my library from my flash drive to my desktop and was able to open it from that location, so I don't think the library is corrupt.

Any thoughts? Incidentally, I noticed that now when I tell firefox to restart after changing the zotero directory, firefox doesn't actually quit. It just closes the current window and I have to manually quit and reopen. Could that be related?

    Close Firefox and delete the "zotero.sqlit" (not zotero.sqlite) file from the Zotero data directory.
