Can't make new entries to Standalone after refreshing Firefox

Apologies if this is already answered, but if so I haven't been able to find it. The problem: I had to refresh Firefox for reasons unrelated to Zotero. After the refresh, the Zotero icon no longer appeared in the Firefox address line.

So I reinstalled Zotero (Standalone, as before), but I think I'm doing something wrong in creating the extension in Firefox. What I did: on the Zotero Installation page, after downloading Standalone and installing it, I clicked the Firefox button just below the instruction that says "next, add one of the following browser extensions."

That successfully made the Zotero icon appear in the Firefox address line; but when I click on it, the document I'm trying to save to Zotero appears not in the old standalone library (which I can still see when I open Zotero directly), but rather in a new, empty, one, displayed in a pane within the Firefox screen as if I were now using Zotero for Firefox (as I understand it) rather than Standalone.

Versions: Windows 7; Zotero 4.0.29.10; Firefox 46.0.1

What am I doing wrong?
  • you didn't do anything wrong in particular, it's just that the Firefox refresh confused Zotero. See
https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/sharing_data_directory for details and a solution.
  • Thank you very much; that worked perfectly. In fact I had read that discussion, but for some reason concluded it didn't apply to my situation - THAT's what I was doing wrong! (I think I thought that I was expected to be using both Standalone and Firefox native versions, which I saw no reason to do). And I can't believe the instantaneity of your reply! Don't do that too much, or people will think that all you do is hover over the forum with no thought in mind, but to solve their particular problem on their particular timetable!
