Option to not show Zotero in right click menu (Zotero Connector)

The Zotero Connector extension for Chrome (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/zotero-connector/ekhagklcjbdpajgpjgmbionohlpdbjgc) shows a "Save to Zotero" option when right clicking on a web page.

There's no option to remove this as most other extensions have.

Would be nice to have it.
  • PLEASE REMOVE THIS. I have contacted everyone from my personal technicians, to google chrome and they can't get rid of the extension of my bookmark bar.

    I DON'T WANT IT THERE.

I NEVER EVEN DOWNLOADED IT IN THE FIRST PLACE.
I have no idea where this downloaded from.

But I am getting really irritated because I DID NOT ASK FOR THIS.

Get this off my browser please
  • @jsaulztz -- assuming yours is not a spam post, you'd have to say a bit more about what you're getting and where. Zotero will only show up in Chrome after installing the extension and will disappear when you uninstall it.
Please remain civil in the process; no one here likes getting yelled at.
  • Alright,

I noticed this extension on my browser via Google Chrome last night. It had an odd silver book icon that labeled it as 'Save to Zotero'.

In my extensions settings, it prevents me from disabling the extension. It states "this extension is managed and cannot be removed or disabled" It also says that it was installed by the System Administrator, which is me.

I have no recollection of downloading this extension onto my computer.

I am not sure if it is Google Chrome or if it has something to do with the extension.

    I tried:
    *uninstalling and reinstalling google chrome
*finding the extension in my computer folders and removing it
*using Mackeeper to identify the origin of the folder/extension
*using anti-malware removal from Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
    *restarting my computer
  • Could you say exactly as what the extension is labled under extensions? We've literally never heard of this, nor should it be possible to install any extension into Chrome from anywhere but the play store and without explicity OK from the user. Certainly that's the only way to install the Zotero for Chrome extension. It's obviously possible that someone has made malware camouflaging as Zotero (though again, haven't heard of this).

Have you tried running Chrome as administrator/root and unistalling the extension?
  • I have screen shots of everything. That might help.

But I am not exactly sure how to upload them here.
  • The extension is labeled as Zotero Connector
  • You can upload screenshots to any free image hosting site -- imgur.com (no registration), Dropbox, google drive, whatever you like -- and link to from here.

Zotero Connector is the standard label, yes. And if you click on "Developer Mode" (under extensions in the top right) its ID shows as
ekhagklcjbdpajgpjgmbionohlpdbjgc ? That'd be the regular Zotero one then.
  • Yes that is the correct ID.

  • Could you adjust the sharing settings? I can't access this
  • https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B0eYh0qSZi2xcFdnREx1UnozbjQ&usp=sharing

    there that should work
  • I don't think there's much we can tell you here. The Zotero Connector is just a Chrome extension like any other, so this is more of a Chrome question than a Zotero question. You (or some other piece of software we're certainly not aware of) somehow installed it as an administrative user, and you'll need to figure out how to remove it. If nothing else, I would imagine that deleting that folder — authorizing as an admin user, if necessary — and restarting Chrome would do the trick. (You don't say what happened when you actually tried that.)
  • A quick Google search for "this extension is managed and cannot be removed or disabled" (https://goo.gl/eLphCO) shows:

    * "If you are seeing pop-up ads with Google Chrome, and in your extension list there is an extension with the “This extension is managed and cannot be removed or disabled” text, then your browser is infected with an adware program." (https://goo.gl/9mcmiu)
