IEEE Xplore translator will not import certain articles

Report ID: 1800777178 (no error recorded though)

I'm running Windows 7 Enterprise SP 1. I have both Zotero Standalone 4.0.29.5 and Zotero Firefox 4.0.29.10 installed, and I use translators with Zotero Firefox. The IEEE Xplore translator works well with most articles, but it fails for a few articles such as in the above URL -- it quits silently without adding any item into my library.
  • I think the problem is the lack of a title for that article in the RIS supplied by IEEE, which would be a problem on their end. Would have to look into more closely, though.
  • I don't understand -- isn't the title supplied in the bibtex citation? I compared this with the response for another article, for which this translator works, and found no fundamental difference.

I tried to debug with Scaffold, and it seems to me that the problem occurs in the abstract (I suspect the tags are the cause), as when I requested citation only, an item was correctly returned.
  • you're right, sorry.
It is the abstract, indeed. It's still IEEE's "fault" though -- there are unescaped curly brackets in the abstract, which is invalid bibtex.
I can see what we can do, but it'd be much preferable if they could fix this. Parsing a bibtex file and deciding which curly brackets are "right" and which are "wrong" is very messy.

(we do already fix the html tags, so that's not the problem)
    Can you report to them?
  • True. I've reported it to IEEE and will follow up with them. Thank you.
