Journal abbreviations missing periods?

The Nature guidelines state:
"Journal names are italicized and abbreviated (with periods) according to common usage; refer to Index Medicus for details."

However, Zotero formatted "Front Microbiol" without a period. Just wondering if this is something I should expect to be done.
  • For that style, Zotero should be including periods in the journal abbreviation if they are present (see the first example reference on the Zotero style site, for example). However, Zotero will not add periods if they are missing. This is because there are no errors in the process of stripping periods, but there will be some errors if you try to add them.

I imagine you may have to add periods to the Journal Abbr. field for that particular citation.
  • Or use Zotero's automated abbreviations with the Word/LibreOffice add-on, those should always be correct with respect to periods or not.
