Zotero Standalone was launched but is not accessible

I'm using Waterfox 46.0.1, the Zotero 4.0.29.9 plugin, and Zotero Standalone 4.0.29.5.

If I open Standalone before Waterfox, the Zotero plugin gives the message "Zotero Standalone was launched but is not accessible. If you experienced an error opening Zotero Standalone, restart Firefox". I cannot save pages with the plugin, but I can look at Standalone using Alt-Tab or the taskbar.

Opening Waterfox before Standalone gives the message "Your Zotero database is currently in use."

My database is on a removable (not network) drive.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  • Zotero currently has problems interfacing with Firefox-64. I seem to recall that Waterfox is 64 bit. If so, your use of a recompiled version of Firefox takes you a step further from Zotero's design. Do you find that Waterfox has a real performance boost compared with Firefox? Sometimes other plug-ins can be incompatible with Zotero. Maybe you want to try disabling them as a test. What operating system are you using?
  • Waterfox feels faster, but I can't rule out a placebo effect. ;)

I was hoping support for Firefox x64 might have been phased in, but looking back, the official Firefox x64 was only released a few months ago, so I was probably asking too much.

    I don't have any other plug-ins. I'm using Windows 8.1.
