drag & drop PDFs into Zotero not working

I am a new zotero user trying to set up my reference collection (I use Kubuntu 8.10, KDE 4.2, Firefox 3.0.6, zotero 1.5b1, on a Dell laptop). As I understand it, if I click and drag a PDF from my file manager into the middle pane on Zotero it should be accepted and I should then be able to edit the entry (or right click to search for bibliographic data for the entry on Google Scholar). However, when I drag and attempt to drop a PDF, it is not accepted by Zotero, and nothing happens.

    same problem for Ubuntu 8.10 with gnome and otherwise same setup.
    The image of the file I'm dragging kind of fans out.
    Drag&drop out of Zotero also still not working.

    Does anybody know anything more about this? There is a known issue on this but it appears to be for 1.0.9
