Firefox error says my style isn't valid

I've been using a custom-made Zotero style for years, but when I tried to apply it today, it wouldn't work. I got a Firefox error (I use the Zotero plug-in) saying the style was invalid, but then I ran it through the validator indicated on the Zotero styles page, and it came out completely clean. Any idea what the problem is? It worked as recently as yesterday.

The style file is here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/yp8hclb1s11rgfm/SEI%20International%20Style.csl?dl=0.

Help greatly appreciated!
  • If you are in time stress with submission then you can use standalone Zotero and maybe Firefox 32b. It seems that this is linked with Firefox 64b.
  • I can wait a couple of days. So you think it's a Firefox problem, not a Zotero thing? I did just update my Firefox. Thanks for the reply!

    PS: My other custom style, which I built separately but is quite similar, doesn't seem to be having any issues. Thus my concern that something about my style actually does need to be updated.
  • I do not say that this is any problem of Firefox. It can still be the problem in style or CSL processor or somewhere on the way. If you use standalone Zotero or 32bit Firefox, this error does not show.
  • What kinds of errors would upset Zotero in Firefox 64-bit but not in 32-bit or standalone?

    Do you also get the error if you use the Zotero Style Editor? (visit "chrome://zotero/content/tools/csledit.xul" in the address bar; see https://www.zotero.org/support/dev/citation_styles/reference_test_pane for more documentation)

    I haven't been able to reproduce these errors, and your style seems to work fine for me there (with Firefox 45.0.2 for Windows, User Agent "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:45.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/45.0", and Zotero for Firefox 4.0.29.7)

    @Rintze - I have this problem with marionsdĀ“s style:

    1. Firefox extension 4.0.29.7 and Firefox 45.0.2 (build "20160407164938"; User agent "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; rv:45.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/45.0") - error in MS Word - error "style is invalid"

    2. Zotero Style Editor in Firefox (chrome://zotero/content/tools/csledit.xul) - style works

    3. Zotero standalone 4.0.29.5 - style works in MS Word

    All tests was realized on the same computer.

    @marionsd, this problem should be fixed in Zotero for Firefox 4.0.29.8, which has just been released. (see https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/58455/2/style-validation-change/#Item_18 for another thread where people had the same issue)

    It turned out to be a problem with Zotero's CSL processor. Zotero for Firefox 4.0.29.7 used a different version than the latest Zotero Standalone, which is why the bug only showed up in the former. Had nothing to do with 64 vs. 32 bit.

    Thanks for reporting! Your style helped us figure out what went wrong!
