Zotero experienced an error updating your document

I edited references in Zotero and then tried to refresh/update the citations in my LO document but got this error message. Do I have to go through and replace 620 citations?

    almost certainly not. Start by testing that this still works in a fresh document.

    Then, try restarting Zotero and LibreOffice and try again.

    Depending on how these work, we'll continue from there.

    I tried a fresh document: 1) copied content from old document to new document. I could insert the bibliography but it inserted the references without changes 2) I inserted citations into a new document and the bibliography reflected the changes

    I restarted Zotero and LO: 1) this allowed me to insert the bibliography but the references did not reflect the changes and it did not update the citations in the footnotes 2) if I delete changed references and reinsert them, the updated citation is in both the footnote and bibliography

    I could insert the bibliography but it contained the old version of references that I had already updated in Zotero. The citations in the footnotes were also the old version (they did not update.)

    What happens when you add the same reference again as a new citation? If you're using the regular insert citation dialog (the quick format box with the red frame), make sure you select it from under "My Library" not under "Cited" -- these are headings displayed in the search results.
