incorrect style for Moleculer Plant?

Hello,

I downloaded the Zotero style for Molecular Plant (2015-09-21 09:38:35, https://www.zotero.org/styles?q=molecular%20plant) but the format I have in my manuscript does not correspond to the one I see in the articles, for both the inline citation and the bibliography.
I see that the journal did not change style since Sept 2015, is there an explanation to this discrepancy? I also can't find an exact replacement for this style, I just wanted to make sure before submitting a request for a new format.
Thanks
  • Never hurts to report a problem. Works best if you can show specifically what is wrong with the current style, including documentation for the proposed correction (journal author guidelines or, even better, an open access published article).

(Journal styles often change and people who code styles generally rely on error reports from users to catch them. A style being updated doesn't necessarily on a particular date doesn't necessarily mean it was massively revised then.)
  • There is something else to consider. Although less often now than in the past, manuscript requirements may not exactly match what is printed in the journal. For example, some journals using Vancouver style want submitted manuscripts with reference numbers to be within brackets but appear in print in superscript.

Some journals request doi and pmid strings to facilitate reviewers access to cited material. These locators may not appear in the final version.
  • Molecular plant doesn't give us much to go by. I think we've been promised an update by Elsevier, who now owns it.
Until then, I'd try using the style for Cell, which looks pretty close (and MP is published in the Cell family of journals.)
  • Thank you all for your input. Here is an article as an example: http://www.cell.com/molecular-plant/pdf/S1674-2052(15)00394-9.pdf and the format of an article could be this:
Campbell, J.L., and Pedersen, O.K. (2007). The varieties of capitalism and hybrid success. Comparative Political Studies 40(3): 307–332 [DOI not present int the references: doi:10.1177/0010414006286542]
For now I will use the style from Cell and inquire the MP journal directly.
    Thanks!
  • It would actually be great if you guys can edit the style for Molecular Plant. The style I found in the repository is significantly different than the one you see on the journal, and a very similar one would be Harvard (I downloaded Elsevier Harvard and I think the only difference is in the presence of a "," instead of a ":" after the volume # in the Elsevier H. vs the Mol Plant style, respectively. The example is here below between <<>>.
    Thanks!

Hawkins, J.S., Kim, H., Nason, J.D., Wing, R.A., Wendel, J.F., 2006. Differential lineage-specific amplification of transposable elements is responsible for genome size variation in Gossypium. Genome Res. 16<<,>> 1252–1261. doi:10.1101/gr.5282906
  • The style is actually identical to https://www.zotero.org/styles?q=The%20Plant%20Cell
we'll fix this at some point, but just use that in the meantime.
