Yes, it's possible. There are basically two options, the easy way and the hard way. For both of them you click on the search icon and then do a search for "collection" -> "is not" -> "[collection name]".
So the hard way is to do this for every collection which is tedious and you need to adjust your search each time you add a new collection. So what I've found convenient is to make a top level collection folder and put every other collection in as a folder of this first one. Then you can do "collection" -> "is not" ->"[top level collection name]" and check the "search subfolders" option.
