Inserting a short citation into a google doc doesn't work

I am trying inserting a citation from Zotero addon in Firefox into a google doc for the first time and it doesn't work as described in youtube videos and on the site.

The Expected behavior is that shift-drag or Ctrl-Shift-A followed by Ctrl-V would place a short citation like [3] into the google doc. Instead it inserts a full length citation (full title etc).

Ctrl-Shift-A copies a full citation (should be a short one).
Shift-drag copies a full citation too.
I have all current versions - 4.0.29.4 of Zotero addon for Firefox 25.0 on Windows 10.

Please help! I need to edit a paper with several coauthors and google docs are best for that.

Please provide the actual output you're getting using ctrl+shift+a here (i.e. just paste it here instead of google docs.) Also, please check and describe which style you have selected under Export --> Default Output Format.

Note, though, that what you want to do won't work anyway: Numerical citation inserted this way are not linked to Zotero, so that you won't be able to insert a bibliography corresponding to any numbered citations you insert.

The only options for Zotero integration with google docs that work for numerical styles are RTF Scan

Adam, Thank you much! Great help.
I like odf scan - it is what I was looking for. I thought it was a part of zotero, but it came out to be an additional addon.


It does allow inverting citation markers in google docs and the rest is done after exporting to Libre office. It is a useful workaround, that still allows multiple authors to collaborate on a paper in google docs. Not bad!
