Add Short Title Option to Volume Title

Some multi-volume books have titles for the individual volumes (rather than simply vol. I, II, III...). It can be important to cite the full volume title the first time you reference it, but for subsequent citations it can become unwieldy (especially if the individual volume's title is long). At the moment if you add a 'Short Title' for a reference it only changes the main title and not the title of the volume. That means if the volume title is long it reappears in each of the subsequent citations.

E.g. in CMS full note style, the first citation would be;
- Richard N. Hunt, The Political Ideas of Marx and Engels, vol. I. Marxism and Totalitarian Democracy, 1818–50 (Pittsburgh: University of Pittsburgh Press, 1974), 49.

And subsequent citations appear as:
- Hunt, The Political Ideas of Marx and Engels, I. Marxism and Totalitarian Democracy, 1818–50:49.

But this does not look good, and it would be better if instead you had the option to either shorten or completely remove the volume title:
- Hunt, The Political Ideas of Marx and Engels, I. Marxism and Totalitarian Democracy:49.
Or:
- Hunt, Hunt, The Political Ideas of Marx and Engels, I:49.
  • since we don't have a volume title in the first place, how are you putting the whole citation into Zotero?
  • In the 'Volume' field. So instead of just putting 'I', I put 'I. Marxism and Totalitarian Democracy, 1818–50'
  • Of course I could put the whole thing into the main title field (e.g. 'The Political Ideas of Marx and Engels, vol. I. Marxism and Totalitarian Democracy, 1818–50') and then just change the short title (e.g. 'The Political Ideas of Marx and Engels, vol. I'). But then the volume and volume title isn't in italics, which it is supposed to be.
  • yeah, I think the solution will eventually be to have a volume title. With that, - Hunt, Hunt, The Political Ideas of Marx and Engels, I:49 would be possible without an additional short field. Generally planned, won't be quick.

    Yep, including a volume title field would be a good solution. I might just have to remove the volume title in the meantime, and be satisfied with the first full note not being as complete as it could be.
  • Very good solution
