Web Citation

I want to get Zotero to cite these two sources

National Association for Gifted Children. (n.d.). Who we are? Washington, DC: Author. Retrieved from https://www.nagc.org/about-nagc/who-we-are

National Association for Gifted Children. (2016). State definitions of giftedness. Washington, DC: Author. Retrieved from http://www.nagc.org/sites/default/files/Gifted-by-State/State%20definitions%20%281-13-16%29.pdf

Anybody know which type I can use ... I tried the webpage ... and several others, but I can't get Z to do this ...
please help

Thanks
Geno
  • If you really want the location and publisher cited, I'd go with report, that should work nicely. Put the NAGC in the author field in single field mode, Author as institutions, Washington, DC as place, and URL, title, and date (or lack thereof) in the respective locations.

Problem with webpage is that Zotero doesn't have publisher/place field for those. We'll likely allow that in the future, even thought the APA rules on that are a bit silly.
  • (Also, the rule about substituting the word "Author' rather than just repeating the name of the institution is even more silly.)
  • Thank you for the help.
I did what you said and am not getting the expected results.

Here are the steps I followed.
1.) I changed the type to report
2.) I put the National Association for Gifted Children into the author field.
Not sure what you mean by "single author mode" ... is that the options other than author when I use the pull down menu
3.) I added the date, place and url in their respective places
4.) I also need to include the title of the web article .... Who we are
5.) Lastly, hoe do I get the Author. to appear after DC ... ( as silly as it where my professor is requesting that ...

for reference here is what I need it to look like

National Association for Gifted Children. (n.d.). Who we are? Washington, DC: Author. Retrieved from https://www.nagc.org/about-nagc/who-we-are

    Thank you
    Geno
  • It just worked! ... crazy ...

National Association for Gifted Children. (n.d.). (Who we are). Washington, DC: Author. Retrieved from https://www.nagc.org/about-nagc/who-we-are

Is there a way to address the
    (Who we are)
so it doesn't include the parenthesis?
  • In which field do you have "Who we are"?
  • I have "Who we are"? is in the "Report Type" field

Also ... when I eliminate the the title filed ... I loose the title in the main Zotero nav window :(
  • ah, so the problem are the italics when you use report, I didnt' realize that. Not sure there's a perfect solution then. There are work arounds (it's possible to hack publication and place into the website item, but it's not pretty) but if at all possible, I'd just fix it at the end.
  • okay thanks ...
perhaps Zotero will address in the next update ...
If anyone else knows ... please lemme know
  • According to APA style, if you cite it like a report (i.e., with a location and publisher), then the title should be italicized (so just put the title in the Title field for a Report type). Really, though, APA style does not require the publisher and place when citing a website (only one locator--publisher/place, DOI, or URL--is necessary).
