Drag&Drop results in forced restart [4.0.28, standalone, Ubuntu 14.04]

Whenever I drag a pdf into the Zotero standalone version, some error occurs and I am requested to restart Zotero.

Here is a debug ID created when trying to add the Zotero user guide (https://www.zotero.org/static/download/zotero_user_guide.pdf): D591002752.

Thx in advance for any suggestion!

This could be because you're running an old version of Ubuntu. Dragging a PDF from the desktop works for me in 15.04.

Where are you dragging from, exactly?

    Thx for the quick response.

I'm dragging from the Dolphin file browser. Just tried it with nemo, same problem (DbgID D1543446496).
  • OK, I might have fixed this — or at least fixed the crash, if not dragging — in the latest 4.0 Beta. If you have Firefox installed, can you 1) confirm that this happens in the latest release version for Firefox and 2) install the latest 4.0 beta (it's fine to share your existing Standalone data directory, if it asks) and see if that fixes it?
  • I tested saving a pdf (as snapshot) in Firefox 43.0.4 with zotero addon 4.0.28.10. Worked fine, also with the beta.

However (as expected) this does not change the problem with the standalone version. I need to work with the standalone as I drag the pdfs directly into the preferred collections.
For now, the only way to do this is to restart after every drag&drop operation.
  • I think you're misunderstanding. There's no beta of Zotero Standalone, only of Zotero for Firefox, so I'm just asking you to try the same thing — the drag that causes a crash — in Zotero for Firefox. You'll need to close Standalone first to get the full interface in Firefox. You should test with the released version first to try to reproduce the problem before trying the beta.
  • You are right, I was confused.

I now tried to add something within the FF plugin, this time I could add the pdf to the database ("save with snapshot"). But when I tried to delete the file, the plugin crashed and FF needed to be restarted. The debug log is at http://pastebin.com/2r2GV6BE - I removed some unrelated lines.

Then I uninstalled the addon and installed the beta. This time deleting worked, but when I added the pdf again, it crashed.
  • No, don't use "Save with Snapshot". Again, the point here is to perform the exact same action that we were discussing at the beginning of this thread, which as I understand it was dragging a PDF into Zotero from the filesystem. That's what the change in the beta is supposed to fix, but since we can't reproduce it, we can't know if it's fixed unless you 1) reproduce it in the release version and then 2) can't reproduce it in the beta.

Any other issues you experience after that we can debug separately.
