Import from Endnote "Notes" field to tags?

I wish to import an Endnote library into Zotero. In Endnote, I basically used the "Notes" field to tag my references. Is there any way to map the "Notes" field so the contents end up as tags in Zotero? The way the import works now is that the "Notes" field gets converted to a note for each reference in Zotero. So alternatively, is there a way to convert all Zotero notes into tags?

Thanks.
  • you're using RIS as the import format? That should be doable, yes. (harder with Endnote XML). Could you open your export from Endnote with a texteditor (notepad, TextEdit) and paste a single entry -- that's from TY - to ER - -- that contains keywords here.
  • Thanks for your quick reply. I am using RIS as the format. Here's an entry from my Endnote export. The "N1" field is what I would like to import as a tag. Is this possible?

  • The RIS 'KW' field has what Zotero considers to be tags.

Presumably, you could modify your Endnote translator to export your notes to the RIS 'KW' field or you could find/replace in the current RIS file.
  • I was able to do a find/replace in my exported RIS file, replacing 'N1' with 'KW'. I also had a number of references that already had terms in the 'KW' field so I cleared those fields in Endnote before doing the export. Everything seemed to work fine. Thanks!
