Visual Basic Error -

hi - ok trying to start this again, I think my other thread was lost -

I have a mac air with Yosemite 10.10.5
I have word 14.5.9 from 2011
and also word 15.17 from 2016 i believe

with the 2011 word I get the visual basic error when i click the zotero icon and try and add citations

with the 15.17 I don't see any sign of its being linked to zotero

is there a way to fix either of these? do i need to set up a standalone zotero? if so, can you point me to how to do that?

thanks
josh
  • yeah, sorry about that thread. I hadn't actually forgotten, it just took me a while to get a solution I felt was going to be pretty reliably working and then to write it up. It's now in the documentation,

    Start here: https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_troubleshooting?&#mac
which will then direct you here: https://www.zotero.org/support/windows_word_plugin_manual_installation_instructions#manually_installing_the_zotero_word_for_mac_2016_plugin

As I said, I just wrote that up, so bear with me and let me know is something isn't clear. Be as specific as possible and I'll try to help you along as well as improve the documentation.

    ok thanks

so following this to try and find word startup folder which is supposedly (according to my word 2016 program) located at users/jose/desktop - however i do not see any folder there. i changed its location and didnt see one in the new location either. so i changed it back, but still dont see it.

    thoughts?
  • to where did you change its location? You definitely do not want your word startup folder to be your desktop, so change it for sure. Do you get a filepath similar to the one mentioned in the instructions?
  • so here's our conversation from the old thread:
    me
the default location of the startup folder should be something like this:
    ~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/User Content/Startup/Word
    you
i found that startup folder in the library - all it had in it was Zotero.dot
So if you indeed found that folder -- you want to set Word's startup folder to that folder. Does that make sense?
  • yes, just did that - got the startup folder at
    ~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/User Content/Startup/Word

and it worked - woo hoo - thanks so much :)
