HathiTrust translator icon not working

HathiTrust translator icon is generic COinS and so is not working. This in Standalone, with Chrome.
  • We'd want a sample url, exactly add you see it
  • so the COinS shouldn't break, Pretty sure that's their fault. They just put empty tags in there and I think that's illegal:
    ctx_ver=Z39.88-2004&rft_val_fmt=info:ofi/fmt:kev:mtx:journal&rfr_id=info:sid/hathitrust.org&rft.genre=article&rft.title=The Art-union.&rft.au=&rft.date=1839-1848]&rft_id=http://hdl.handle.net/2027/njp.32101082376805&rft.issn=

Note the rft.issn and rft.au which have an equal sign followed by nothing.

The reason we're not detecting this via the translator is that the translator is written for the full record pages lilke
    http://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record/010363260
We can try to make this work for item views, but it's a bit of a mess with no data for those items actually linked to anywhere on the page.
  • So I should alert the people at HT?
  • if you could alert them about the COinS, that'd be great, yes.
  • For what it is worth, it appears that Hathi has not yet updated the COinS tags. Sample URL with blank COinS is below:

    https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=mdp.39015067495336;view=1up;seq=939

An attempt to use COinS on the URL above pulls no data into Zotero.

Saving via "Embedded Metadata" does an OK job (at least in this instance) of pulling in some basic info which can then be converted and cut-and-paste into the appropriate citation type.
  • Has this been sorted now?
  • Same problem as original report.
    URL is https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=osu.32435054486576;view=2up;seq=94
Goes through the motions, but nothing gets saved.
  • Similar issue -- the COinS doesn't import into Zotero correctly. It's a little less clear who is to "blame" in this case, but for a user, I'd really just recommend going to the item's main catalog record and grabbing the citation from there. That includes much more comprehensive metadata, so it's almost certainly worth it.

We should probably have Zotero do this automatically, but that might take some time.
  • "going to the item's main catalog record and grabbing the citation from there"
-- yes, this does work as a workaround - though with the loss of page data.

"We should probably have Zotero do this automatically, but that might take some time." Worth doing, I think, since HathiTrust is a major archive.

  • the page data isn't in the metadata either way, so I think that's a lost cause either way.
  • HathiTrust translator icon (in Chrome) is still not working -- now even at the level of the main catalog description of an item.
  • This is a continuing failure. How can it be fixed?
