[JavaScript Error: "getTranslators: detection is already running" {file: "chrome-extension://ekhagklcjbdpajgpjgmbionohlpdbjgc/zotero/translation/translate.js" line: 1023}]

Any other relevant information (operating system, browser and version, Zotero version, etc.). Please mention if you are using Zotero for Firefox or Zotero Standalone when reporting a translator issue and provide the exact version numbers (don't just say “most recent”).

I'm not seeing any translators in Chrome, despite having the connector extension installed and standalone running.

Versions:

OS: Windows 10 Professional 64-bit
Chrome: 47.0.2526.111 m
Zotero standalone: 4.0.28.7
Zotero connector (Chrome): 4.0.26

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the connector, standalone, and translators (reset in that case).

The translators were last working correctly on 1/10.

If possible, please include the name of the translator from step 7.

There are no translators on any page, so I do not believe I can provide this information.
  • do you have any other extensions installed in Chrome? If so, could you disable all of them (for testing), restart and try again?

If that doesn't help, with all extensions still disabled, could you provide an debug ID from the Chrome connector for loading or reloading the Amazon page you link above

So apparently it's a Chrome thing. It wasn't an extension issue, but rather Chrome has apparently removed the ability for extension to have an icon in the URL. I can't find a confirmation on that, except for the fact that Zotero and RSS Sub Extension (by Google, no less) both used to appear in the URL next to the bookmark star, and now they both appear in my menu (the hamburger menu, the three vertical lines) and I have to manually pull them into my extensions bar. They've removed the ">>" chevron that used to indicate you had more extension icons that were not visible.

TLDR: Chrome made a change that moves any extension icon that used to appear in the URL bar into the extension menu instead, effectively hiding it from the users' view.

Unless I'm late to the party - which is entirely probable - I suspect you'll have more reports of this in Chrome in the coming days/weeks.
  • not a general Chrome change. At least in the Linux version of Chrome 47.0.2526.111 m this works as always. I can check on W10 tomorrow, but seems unlikely that'd be different.

I have a screenshot of my Win10 Chrome install from 1/10 that shows the Zotero connector icon in the URL bar on Codepen, and today that same icon is in the extensions bar, so this is a very recent change on Windows.

If you'd like the comparison screenshots, let me know!
  • if you don't mind putting them on imgur or some other free image hosting site and linking that'd be helpful, especially in case other people run into this.
  • Sure thing, here you go (including annotations):

If you need more information or something's not right with the images, please let me know!
  • Yeah, not the case here on OS X or Windows 7 with 47.0.2526.111.

What version are you running? Are you sure this isn't caused by some other installed extension?
  • Dan:

    OS: Windows 10 Professional 64-bit
    Chrome: 47.0.2526.111 m
    Zotero standalone: 4.0.28.7
    Zotero connector (Chrome): 4.0.26

Yes, the icon is in a different place when no extensions are enabled, or on a completely new install of Chrome (I did both). You can see the difference in my screenshots (https://imgur.com/a/X5Ede) and I can include some with the fresh install if needed. Let me know please!
  • something else is going on for you -- on W10, too, the URL bar icon is where it has always been for me on the newest Chrome version (plus, you'll note we haven't had a single other report of this, and given past experience we'd have dozens if this were a general issue).

You seem to be using some type of dark skin/theme for Chrome. That may have something to do with it? That said -- if you don't really mind where it's now and no one else has the problem, we also don't have to go deep into troubleshooting this, since no one is actually troubled ;).

    @adamsmith

The dark theme is a Chrome theme, although I do have the issue with a fresh install and no theme or other extensions as well; I just didn't take those screenshots.

I don't mind where it is, and since I'm the only one affected I'm completely fine with determining this is resolved. I did think I was going insane for a bit though... =)

Thanks both of you for your excellent help!

    EDIT: Clarified the theme thing.
