Got a new PC setup with Office2016 and Windows10. Installed the Firefox and word add-on as described, have full access my entries being stored on c:-drive, but get an error message in Word, when I want to add a citation (see below). Zotero experienced an error updating your document.

  • so you happen to know if you installed the 64-bit version of Firefox?
  • No, how would I find out?
    Which version do I need?
  • you need the 32-bit version, which would be what you install normally. When you click on the Firefox tool icon (the three lines at the top right), then on the question mark, then on about Firefox, what does it say? (just the bit right below Firefox, not all the ...is developed by... stuff).
  • Only states version 43.0.4
Did not find on Morzilla support where to find it either. But I found a page where you can download Firefox versions customized to 32/64 bit and language www.orzilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/

Downloaded the 32bit version and installed it and now I can use Zotero as planned :-))
Thanks for the competent and fast response!
  • I'm somewhat suspecting that it was actually the FF re-install rather than the 32vs64-bit issue that worked (very likely you had the 32 bit before, too), but happy you have it working.
  • I have updated FF JUST 2 days ago, before I installed Zotero and moved my files to the new drive!
Do I get the 32bit version with my automatic FF update then? It would be good to have the option in the update routine, since forum entries elude that a lot of add ons will not work with 64bit yet.
Maybe that is something you should tell them rather than me.;-))
    Thanks
  • yes, they wouldn't give you the 64-bit version on a regular update. You'd have to have explicitly installed it (which is why I suspect that wasn't actually the problem -- the other reason this error happens is a general problem with the FF install, likely permission related (I don't understand those well, but other users have fixed them with a new Firefox profile), and I think that's probably what happened here.
  • This bit me today also, working with Juris-M in a VM - could have caught on to the game more quickly, but I lost a couple of hours to it. The lack of any indication in Firefox that a first-install of the program has come through as 64-bit is puzzling. It's not just Zotero that breaks with the version their system defaults to.
