Bibliography has disappeared and citing now not working

HELP!!!

Major panic going on here. I am a week away from handing in major work. Zotero has been inconsistent and when I click to add the citation it fails 1 out of 3 times, I redo it and it's fine.

The bibliography disappeared from the Word document one day but did come back when I closed and reopened the document. Not this time. I have restarted the computer but this time it won't even add a citation, it just leaves the page.

I have hundreds of references which are still visible in the Zotero strip across the bottom of my screen, but they are not visible in the document.

Please help!

Thank you,

Kristin
  • Update. Adding a citation started working again after I added a new reference to the Zotero library. I still can't readd the bibliography but I get a message now:

Zotero experienced an error updating your document.

    Document modified during update @[setCode:field.m:585]

    I hope that helps.
  • provided this still works in a fresh document, run through https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_troubleshooting#debugging_broken_documents
  • THank you for contacting me.

    Track changes was off.

I don't understand check for citations in image captions.

It does work in a fresh document.

It just closes the page when I try it with a copy and paste of the open document, or a copy of the whole file.

It doesn't give me the option of chosing another bibliography style as when I click on anything - add citation, add bib - it just closes the page from view (not completely but I have to click on the Word icon again to bring it up).

I went into report error, sent it and got 1325443387.

I am in Australia, hence you not hearing from me for so many hours but I will wait with baited breath!
  • I wonder if it's because I altered some citations? Harvard referencing means that if you mention the quoter's name in the sentence then you just put the year, or the year and the page at the end. So I clicked on the citation (Hurwitz 2014) and removed the name. Would that mess it up?

I have also changed the references in the Zotero library when I have managed to find more information - like adding the author of an article when it doesn't get picked up by the Zotero download.
  • And I started removing sections of the text to see if I could find the dodgy citation, wound up removing the lot from the page, tried to make a new citation and it closes the page. So the problem is not fixed by getting rid of all the text, just by starting an entirely new document.
  • 1326525568 is the new error report number from trying to add the bib to the copied file.
  • I might be in business! On the copy I changed the referencing style, that let me put back the bibliography, then I changed it back to the one I wanted and so far it is still there!!

I don't feel overly confident as the thing is so fragile. If you could please look at the error reports and shed some light that would be reassuring.

    Thanks again.
