Word freezes every time I insert a citation

Hello,
I have a Mac OS X 10.6.8 with 2008 Microsoft word. I am facing a trouble every time I attempt to insert a citation. The page freezes to the extent that I have to force quit and and try again. The same thing happens repeatedly and I could not do anything about it. Any suggestions? Thanks

    does this also happen in a fresh document or only in an existing one?

    It happens with both. I reinstalled zotero again but it did not work. Keep in mind that I initially downloaded the MLZ bluebook and it worked perfectly. I am not sure I can have both zotero and MLZ together, that maybe an issue, but it worked well until recently.

    Trying another solution, I downloaded google chrome and installed zotero to no avail. Now I am back on Firefox. I have the save to zotero icon in the address bar but there is an error message (outdated version)although I downloaded the last one. My preference is to have the bluebook 19th edition (Juris M) rather than regular zotero. Many thanks for your help.

    A bit tricky to troubleshoot with this mix of MLZ (which is now juris-m) and Zotero.

    I guess I'd try to install juris-m and see if you get it to work with that:
