Brackets around citations?

Hi. I'm new to Zotero and moved from Mendeley. One thing I noticed is when I entered an in-text citation, there were brackets around the citation and even around the bibliography.
e.g.

text text text [(citation et al. 2009; citation et al. 2010)].

Is there a way to get rid of that? Is it dependent on the journal I am using? I don't see it used in this journal when I read other papers from it, so I am a bit confused.
  • What citation style are you using in Zotero?
  • For the Journal "Conservation Genetics" -- I chose bookmark, should I have not? I tried to go back and change it, and I can't seem to get it to reappear. I am using Mac Office 2011.
  • I think they might be invisible characters used to signal bookmarks. If you look at the print preview -- are you still seeing them?

Unless you're using the document in both Word and LibreOffice, I'd strongly recommend using Fields instead of bookmarks. You can change that setting by clicking on "Set Document Preferences" in the Word add-on
