translator for peeters journal database

hi zotero experts,
i cannot import metadata from this site:http://poj.peeters-leuven.be/content.php#

Could anybody create a translator for this database?

thanks in advance
  • While waiting for a translator, you can place each article's DOI into the "magic wand" field and get some of the metadata. Unfortunately, the publisher doesn't provide complete metadata to CrossRef. Also, as with any CrossRef metadata, the abstract isn't supplied and will need to be pasted into your Zotero record.
  • DOI-based import also works via the URL bar icon on article pages, e.g.
    http://poj.peeters-leuven.be/content.php?url=article&id=2064960&journal_code=AC
    no need to copy&paste.

Beyond that, I don't think we'll create a translator. Peeters doesn't supply any structured metadata of any form on the page (which is really rather bizarre in 2015), so we'd have to try to scrape each bit, which is a) laborious and b) fragile, so I don't think any of us will take that up. If Peeteres could be convinced to just but google highwire metatags on their article pages or provide RIS for download, that'd help.
  • I receive the translator error box message for most of the journal abstract pages on the Peeters site. What can I do to help get Zotero to recognize the DOI strings where this isn't happening. What information can I share about my connection (to the site and the process that leads to the error ) that might facilitate getting the generic DOI translator to reliably find the DOI on the web pages? I've tried getting article metadata using both the Firefox plugin and via Zotero standalone through Chrome.

This is the first time I've encountered this long-established publisher of English language journals. I will approach them about SafetyLit indexing and may be able to influence them to provide better metadata. They certainly paid a great amount of attention to programming for intellectual property protection. Maybe they will devote some of that programming effort to making their publications available to search engines and personal bib management software.
  • apologies, you're right. The icon-based DOI query only uses CrossRef, Peeters deposits their data with mEDRA. So indeed, copy&paste is the only way to go as for now.
  • thanks a lot for your hint. With the DOI query in the "magic wand" i get most metadata of the articles, except abstracts.
