Attaching a pdf file

I have references in my personal library as well as several group libraries. In some cases, when I add the reference using the icon in the URL bar, the reference metadata and the pdf file are attached. In other cases, just the metadata is added. I then have to find the reference, right click on it, choose Add Attachment and then Attach Stored Copy of File.

I recently created a new group library, have added a set of references with metadata only and now I am trying to add the pdf files. The option "Attach Stored Copy of File" is greyed out and I cannot add the pdf of the file.

Why is this and how do I fix it?

  • Whether a PDF is attached depends on the site in question, your access to the file, and Zotero's current support for the site. If you provide examples of places where PDFs aren't added when you do have access tgo them, we can take a look. (Also be sure to provide a Report ID.)

    For the group library, make sure you have it set to allow file editing in the group settings on zotero.org, and then sync.
  • (And note that open public groups can't have attached files.)
