Where do I put the XML file?

I found this part of the site:
http://www.zotero.org/styles

which is exactly what I needed because my Vancouver style references had round brackets e.g. (1), instead of square e.g. [1]. The problem is that I don't know what to do with the XML file on that page. There's no Zotero folder with lots of XML files in it and there's no instructions on that page as to what I should do. Clicking on the "install" link merely shows me the XML.

What can I do here? I appreciate any help :)

    Clicking on the install link should actually bring up a window asking if you want to install. Could you recheck?
    What might have happende - if you don't click on install, but on the title of the style you see the xml (or actually csl) stlyle displayed.

    Alternatively look at Rintze's instructions on how to install a style on the bottom of this thread
    http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/5371/loading-a-new-style/
    (btw. 6th link in a forum search for "install styles"...)

    Note that most of the non-default styles can only be installed on Zotero 1.5

    Edit: oooh - in your face, Frank ;-)
  • @Phloxicon,

    Here's a recent thread about installing styles.

    If you have Zotero installed and running, clicking on the [install] link (not the name of the style -- that will just display the XML) should trigger an invitation to install from Firefox. I get this for Vancouver:

    Install style "Vancouver" from http://www.zotero.org/styles/vancouver?install=1?

    This doesn't work in your environment?
  • Guys, thanks. I just had to use Firefox. It seems I've found yet another bug in Google Chrome :S

    Thanks for the really fast replies :D
  • that's not a bug - how is Chrome supposed to install something for a firefox extension?
  • Oh, good point. A silly comment on my part.

    There's still a problem. It's still doing round brackets like (1) instead of [1]. I don't understand this because in the XML file, it says that [] brackets are used. Does Vancouver appear with round brackets on everyone's computer or just mine? Are they supposed to be round?
  • they are supposed to be round.
    If that's not what you want

    change the line
    <layout prefix="(" suffix=")" delimiter="; ">

    in the style to
    <layout prefix="[" suffix="]" delimiter="; ">

    see here: http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/5104/modifying-word-plugin-using-journal-abbreviation-instead-of-publication-name/#Item_2 for instructions on how to do that and how to get your "new" Vancouver style into Zotero )
