APA

Hello:

I saw this in the forums but it was from a few years ago so I didn't want to rely on old information. I notice Zotero double spaces every line (as opposed to single space within an entry as APA requires).

I'm a newbie and have no idea what I'm doing.
  • APA requires double spaced bibliographies. See e.g.
All text should be double-spaced just like the rest of your essay.
https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/05/ (you can find the same info in the APA manual, but I'm too lazy to dig up the page number right now.
  • I have problems with the in-text citations with APA.
    (Dunne EF, Unger ER, Sternberg M, & et al, 2007; Weinstock, Berman, & Cates, 2004). or (G. M. Martinez & Abma, 2015).

Some of them have first and last initials, which they are not supposed to have. Sometimes this has been because of incorrect entry of the citation into Zotero stand alone, but this is not the case with the two above.

What can I do? how would I find the most recent version of APA style?
  • the first one is definitely wrong data entry -- possibly using data embedded in the document that's not updating (delete the citation & re-insert, making sure you insert from under "My Library" not "Cited")

The second one could be the same thing, but is more likely this:

  • thanks for your advice. This gives me something to work on. It was driving me crazy. However, I'm not sure I completely sure I understand what you mean by

making sure you insert from under "My Library" not "Cited")
  • If you use the standard form of the Word add-on (the red-rimmed "quick format" bar) and search for the item in question, you'll see small headers in grey above the search results. The top one will say "Cited" (or "Cited Items" I forgot), then further down you have "My Library" and/or any groups. Zotero is telling you where exactly it's getting the item data from for those. You want to make sure you use the copy in your library or group, not a potentially orphaned copy that's stored in the document, since that won't reflect updated data in Zotero.
  • Thanks Adam, you're right. I was looking at the example provided in the manual and not the instructions on page 180.

    Have a good day!
