zotero word plugin looses connection after a certain number of refs?

Hi,

Error report: 1761322548

I am having this strange and really frustrating problem. I have a paper I am working on that has a certain number of refs. Today, when I went to insert a reference, it said there was an error communicating with zotero. I looked around in the forums and found that this can be caused when there is a missing reference in the database that is already cited in the document. As I manually-sync between various computers, this could happen.

To try to fix this, I first deleted each referenced paper one-by-one and tried communicating with zotero. This didn't work. Then I just gave up and deleted all references with the intention of replacing them all. This worked - zotero link was back and I started to add references.

The problem is that I got to a certain point and all of a sudden it started again. As each reference was added at that time, I am certain it is not a missing reference. I tried deleting the last few inserted refs, but this didn't help. I tried inserting the last few references in a clean document, but this didn't cause any problem.

So at this point I am out of silly things to try and really need to get going with this paper. The error report ( 1761322548 ) suggests that zotero is looking for something in the database that it can't find, but what? Is there anyway to find out what is going on? Please, any suggestions for getting going again would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
David
  • Hi,

One more thing: I tried using the firefox Error Console to see if that would give more information about the problem, but it gave no more info than the aforementioned bug report:

Error: [Exception... "'SyntaxError: parseJSON' when calling method: [nsIStreamListener::onDataAvailable]" nsresult: "0x8057001c (NS_ERROR_XPC_JS_THREW_JS_OBJECT)" location: "<unknown>" data: no]

    Cheers,
    David
  • Have you tried deleting and recreating the bibliography?

If that doesn't work, Debugging Broken Documents explains a much quicker way to try to find problems—no need to copy things one by one.

If you can't narrow it down to a particular citation (or set of citations), generate debug output for the insert attempt and send it to support@zot....org.
  • Hi,

And of course, I forgot to mention the versions of things:

    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008120122 Firefox/3.0.5

    Zotero 1.0.9

Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Nu 2600

    Microsoft Word 2000 (9.0.2812)

One thing worth noting is that Windows is the French version, Word is the spanish version and the paper is in English....

    Thanks,
    David
  • Hi,

It had something to do with track changes as accepting all changes and then turning off track changes fixed the problem. This lets me continue to insert references, but not having track changes is a definite drawback. Is there any particular aspect of track changes that causes problems (e.g., showing changes, tracking reference changes vs. normal text changes)?

    Thanks,
    David
