Unable to connect to Google Scholar

After I saved an article, zotero always popup a javascript application warning dialogue. It goes"Please enter the Captcha on the page that will now open and then re-try updating the citations, or wait a while to get unblocked by Google if the Captcha is not present." After I click "OK" button, another dialogue popup. It goes"Connection Interrupted,The document contains no data. The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again." I think this maybe caused by google scholar, since I can't able to access google scholar( http://scholar.google.com/). But I can able to access it by adding "s" after "http"( https://scholar.google.com/ works fine). Is there any way I can change the default google scholar address to https://scholar.google.com/?
  • how are you saving those articles? I'm not quite sure I'm following the workflow here.
  • I am using firefox zotero connecter, and standalone version also installed.
  • and then just clicking on the folder icon for google scholar?
  • Yes, the warning always there, even if I am not using google scholar. When I saving citations from other websites, like elsiver, bmc, etc. I think this caused by network connections. I can access to https://scholar.google.com/ but can not access to http://scholar.google.com/.
  • that's very strange. Zotero wouldn't be accessing google scholar then. So to be perfectly clear, you're not using "Retrieve Metadata for PDF" correct?

Do you have any add-ons installed in Zotero?
  • No, I am not using "Retrieve Metadata for PDF". And I installed stand alone version besides firefox version. All the same. It is because my network is unable to connect google scholar derectily, only by "https". The solution is simple actually, I just need to change the default zotero google scholar address to "https". Is there a way I can change that setting?
  • the problem is that there is no "default google scholar" address for Zotero. It's entirely unclear to me why Zotero is even trying to access google scholar. Something is getting lost in communication at some point.
  • I find why zotero popup that window. Beacuse I am using "Google Scholar Citations for Zotero", and it's default google scholar page is what I mentioned before. That's the reason why I am having that trouble. Thank you adamsmith.
  • yup, that'd do it. That's why I asked about add-ons above.
  • Sorry for resurrecting this thread, but I am having exactly the same problem...
  • Same answer — you're likely using the third-party "Google Scholar Citations for Zotero" plugin. Uninstall that and this will go away.
