Access denied

Hi,

When I log in to my Zotero account, it says "Error access denied. You do not have access to this area." Then when I click on my libraries, it takes me to a completely empty library and says that I do not have any items in my library (I had almost 70 items before). I tried to add a new article and I see the pop up in the bottom right corner where it says it saved my article, but then when I go back to my library, even the new one doesn't show up. I'm using the Chrome extension for Zotero.

Any idea what's wrong and how I can get my sources to display again??
  • Can't say what's up with the access denied, but it sounds like you may be confusing your local Zotero (Standalone in your case) with the library on the website.

    Open the Zotero software and you'll see your saved articles. From there, you can then sync to get them online:

    Thanks so much for your reply. I'm sorry, but I'm a little confused. I'm not sure I understand what Standalone is. Is that my Chrome extension?

    When I was adding my sources, I was able to go to zotero.org, sign in, click my library, and I was able to see all of my sources in the files I had divided them into. Now this is when I do that it tells me the access denied part.

    I downloaded the app onto my Mac and opened it and there are three sources there from when I used Zotero in 2014 but there are none from this year. I never opened the app this year because I didn't realize I was supposed to and forgot I ever had Zotero in the past. I just searched for Zotero online and logged in. I did this over multiple days while working on a paper and was able to see my sources, except now they're gone.

    Even after I redownloaded the application, when I click on the zotero icon on Chrome to save a source, it says saving but doesn't show up in my library on the app or on the website version.
  • yeah, you should be working with the app, makes things much easier, but doesn't seem to be the cause of the problem here.

    Are you absolutely positive that you don't have two Zotero accounts? That would be by far the most likely scenario for what you're seeing.
  • Oh wow so silly of me!! I had no idea that I even had another account with Zotero but that username was what I had put in (it's similar to my new username) so it was indeed pulling up my old account. Phew I found all my sources once I logged into the new account. Thank you so much!!!!
