MS Word:mac 2008

I saw that there were problems with getting zotero info into ms word:mac 2008, but am wondering if anyone has a solution. I downloaded the available file, which put the zotero buttons between the file menu and the open file window, but they don't appear to do anything. Is there any way I can add citations and biblio via a different menu or something?

I am desperately wanting to use zotero for my grad school and dissertation but if I can't do so on my new mac, then .....

endnote? ew.

please help me.
  • Due to changes Microsoft made to the Mac version of Office, Word 2008 is only supported by an alpha plugin that requires Zotero 1.5 (currently in preview release).
  • Does this mean I need to switch over to z1.5 then download the alpha plugin? Any word on when it will become better-than-alpha? two months? two years?
  • Much closer to the former.
  • Zotero Mac Office 2008 Plugin:
    Hi,

I just installed Office 2008 but did not de-install Office 2004. I upgraded Zotero to 2.0, but no Zotero appears in the Word 2008 Script. Is it possible to run both Office packages and have Zotero run on both?

    Thanks

  • Is it possible to run both Office packages and have Zotero run on both?
Yes. Make sure you're looking in the right place and that you've tried the troubleshooting steps.
  • Hi Dan,

tried it all, including PythonExt. I have a German version and I moved the Zotero.dot into the Folder "Start" in the
Harddisk > programs > MS Office > Office > Start. i understood no toolbar does appear, but I also do not see Zotero in the Scripts and the shortcuts also do not work.

I recently installed the "No Script" Plugin in Firefox, in case this might cause the problem.

    Thank You,

    knippe
  • Word 2008 doesn't use Zotero.dot. Were the scripts installed?
  • Do you mean this:

"If you have only a non-English versions of Office installed, you may delete the Microsoft User Data folder if it contains nothing other than the Zotero scripts. You may then re-install the Zotero scripts by going to Tools→Add-ons→Extensions, clicking the “Preferences” button next to Zotero MacWord Integration, and clicking the “Reinstall Word Components” button."

    Done

No Zotero in the "Word Script Menu Items" - Folder

  • 1) Is Word 2008 installed in /Applications/Microsoft Office 2008/Microsoft Word on your system, or another location? If another location, what's the exact path?

    2) If you open AppleScript Editor (from Spotlight or /Applications/Utilities), paste

    run script "application id \"com.Microsoft.Word\""
into the top box, and click Run, does it open Word 2008?
  • Hi,

Updating MacWordIntergration 3.0b2 I get the following message:
Finder got an error: Can't get file "Zotero.dot" of parent of alias "mainboard:users:me:library:application support:firefox:profiles:sb0qguf8.default:extensions:zoteroMacWordintegration@zotero.org:install:install.scpt"

Please note: I have not solved the cases above. (Mac Toolbar in Word 2008)

    Thanks

    K.
  • Open the folder specified by that path in Finder, and then try again in Firefox with Tools->Add-ons->Extension->Zotero MacWord Integration->Reinstall Word Components. If that doesn't fix it, try double-clicking Zotero.dot and then closing Word and retrying.

And you didn't answer my questions above.
  • Hi,

I gave up last time, now I have to solve it.

    Situation now:
Running Word 2004 when inserting citation I am told that the versions I use are not compatible. 2008 still does not know Zotero, I ran the script (I never did sth like this), and the answer was:
AppleScript Fehler (=mistake): application id "com.Microsoft.Word\" kann nicht in Type reference umgewandelt werden (=cannot be changes in type reference)

Maybe I should just downgrade again to Zotero 1?

    Thanks

    K
