[SOLVED!!!]Help! Macbook (2007) to new iMac, library not imported
THIS PROBLEM IS NOW SOLVED! All I had to do was to copy/paste the zotero folder BEFORE INSTALLING Zotero on the new computer. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO DELETE THIS DISCUSSION.
Dear all,
I just bought an iMac (2.7ghz, 1T, El Capitan) and wanted to transfer my entire Zotero library (32G) from my old Macbook (Intel, late 2007). I use a portable hard drive to back-up via Time Machine, and wanted to copy the Zotero folder from the "latest backup" folder into the Zotero folder of the iMac.
I browsed the forum but my problem seems not to be covered by the available threads. Also, I followed the instructions from this page: https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/transferring_a_library. So far, I made two attempts but both were unsuccessful.
Here is what I did step by step. I installed Zotero Standalone/for Firefox on the new iMac and opened the Zotero directory (preferences>etc). I then plugged in the external hard drive to the new imac, went to the latest back-up folder and located the Zotero folder (user>library>app support>etc.>Zotero).
I first tried to copy/paste it into the iMac, trying to replace the Zotero folder on the iMac with the one saved on the external hard drive. It didn't work, in fact the system crashed and I had to restart the computer. Then I tried to drag the ext hard drive Zotero folder into its location on the iMac but that didn't work either. Could somebody please help me?
Also, I noticed that the Zotero folder from my old Macbook contains some files that are not present in the new version that I installed on the iMac. Here is a complete list:
locate (folder)
pdfinfo-MacIntel
pdfinfo-MacIntel.version
pdfinfo.sh
pdftotext-MacIntel
pdftotext-…tel.version
pipes (folder)
storage (folder)
styles (folder)
translators (folder)
zotero.mo…les.36.bak
zotero.sqlite
zotero.sqlite-journal
zotero.sqlite.1.bak
zotero.sqlite.73.bak
zotero.sqlite.bak
What should I do? Should I copy only selected items? And if so, which ones of them?
Thanks a lot in advance for your help.
Best
Paolo
