Style Error: Current Biology

Hi all,

The current template correctly puts the in-text citation numbers in brackets, but incorrectly puts the numbers in the bibliography also in brackets, and most importantly, the order of elements in entries is apparently unrelated to that requested by the journal at
http://www.cell.com/current-biology/authors, plus it's missing parentheses around the date and italics for journal volume.

Trying to submit tomorrow, and would rather minimize retail editing, so thanks for any help.

Tom
  • Does 'Cell journals (numeric)' format citations appropriately for that journal?
  • Looks like it from mouseover at the Zotero Style Repository.
  • I'd use that then -- we'll double check and correct on the repository, but likely not by tomorrow.
  • That's what I'll do. And thanks for finding that template, BTW; I had looked around a bit for a substitute and not found a good one.

While I have your attention, there's a further wrinkle. Like several big journals, Current Biology allows submission of Supplemental Information to be available online beyond the official published article. It's submitted as a separate file, and - apparently unique among Cell journal - its references are numbered [S1], [S2], etc., both in-text and in the bibliography. See the "Note for Current Biology authors only" in http://www.cell.com/supplemental-information.

This can be dealt with by a (supervised) find-&-replace after removing codes, but it would be nice to have 2 templates, Current Biology (Main) and Current Biology (Supplement). I see 14 hits searching "supple" in the repository, so there seems to be precedent, possibly enough you should regularize the naming pattern.

    Thanks again for the help.
  • Correction: I just checked again, and neither the main text nor supplemental info brackets the numbers in the bibliography. Both use brackets for in-text citations. Tom
