Automatically name PDF file according to metadata

I often store articles from arXiv or NASA/ADS into Zotero using the Chrome plugin.

The item created will include the PDF (when it is available) but it will be stored with the name of the downloaded file. For arXiv files the format is usually something like 'arXiV:1111.11111 PDF'.

I have to manually right click on the file in Zotero and select 'Name file according to metadata' (translated from Spanish, not sure about the precise wording in English)

Is there an option to have Zotero automatically do this?
  • Zotero should automatically do this. Are you sure you're not just looking at the label in the middle panel? That's not the same as the actual filename, which you'll see displayed at the top of the right-hand panel when selecting the PDF in Zotero.
  • Sorry, yes I mean the label.

I'd like to automatically have Zotero name it the same way it does the actual PDF file, instead of having to do it manually.

    Can this be done?
  • ZotFile will do that. You can't do it with just Zotero, no.
  • Thank you Adam, will look into ZotFile then.
